So the question begs ....will better communication allow more consolidation and efficient use of local police departments...or will they still be stumbling over each other to get the collar.

And you don't think this has anything to do with Cuomo's gun laws? Somebody has to get all of those guns, that will become magically illegal next year, from registered owners who have forgot. Good Lord people, check the new laws and make sure you're within compliance.

This radio system is not just for the Sheriffs Department, it's the same system used by all the fire departments in the county, you have to upgade their systems also, it's not just the system that the Sheriff Department is using, it's a much more expansive system than just a few radios.

Many be the government should consult with the HAM operators. They probably can show the government how to build a system that works for only $500.
It seems like in times of extreme emergencies, the HAM rigs work fine and the government communications fails.

"not from the banks of local taxpayers"..........that's because we send all our money to albany and dc and they allocate it from there. Joe a grant is money from the taxpayers, geez-we are in real trouble folks

ya have to have up to date equipment and for cops or sheriff , they need to be up to date with everything to do a proper job

HMMM, and this shows the waist of tax dollars, really, 6 million for radio's ( wasn't long ago the paper was saying how much the sheriff spent on update communications/which is it?), is it any wonder our county/state/ country has 16 trillion deficit?Sheriff department to big for county populous. vote!
