Magazine Limit Will Change Nothing

February 9, 2013

To The Reader’s Forum: I have to admit failure. I shot my AR15 “Assault Weapon” over a hundred times and I still can’t change out the ten shot magazines in less than 2.75 seconds. That would add ....

As a matter of fact it would have save some lives, Ken. I the mass shooting in Arizona, the shooter was subdued after the 30 shot magazine had been emptied and he was putting a full one in. If he had only had ten shots, my math says that he would have fired 20 fewer shots before people had a chance to stop him. In this case, people were killed with shots 11-30. It's not crazy. High capacity magazines were developed for soldiers so they could hit more targets in a shorter period of time. We don't need this in our streets.

Is there a point to this piece? Thank you to the author of the 6:29am post for the only valid point-that the innocent child was killed with bullets 13 or 14 .

whyaduck if you are talkiing about the Aurora theater shooting, his 100 rd mag for his S&W MP15 malfunctioned when less than 30 rds were fired. He finished up with two handguns.

Anyone who disagrees with the wingnuts are stupid and libs. How idiotic to dispel one side of a debate with slurs. I know, I used the term wingnuts to show how easily one can discredit themselves when trying to make a point.

Yes. He was not stopped by anyone. He just walked outside and sat down. Is there anything you don't want to rewrite to your liking?

"Yes. He was not stopped by anyone. He just walked outside and sat down. Is there anything you don't want to rewrite to your liking?"

Uh, no. He apprehended him while he was walking near his car, they didn't find him sitting. Also, he had things in his car such as miniature spikes to throw on the road that indicated he DID intend to get away. Who knows what more he wanted to do??? So, yes, they did 'stop' him, even though they didn't stop him in time to shorten that particular shooting. A lower capacity magazine: now THAT would have lessened the shooting. Thats just a fact, whether it makes you mad or not? But if it makes you mad, stop and think WHY you're mad at this fact. Is it for the right reasons?

"However, Dianne Feinstein has decreed that I can't possess a magazine with more than ten shots as a method of preventing needless death by gun." Feinstein has not decreed anything, you should spend some time learning about the way laws are passed in this country, this is not ancient Rome.

There is nothing in the article about why the writer thinks he need a weapon with the lethality of the AR-15. Does he feel under threat of foreign invasion? Are there gangs from far away cities that have put a hit on him? Is he in fear of the zombie apocalypse? It would not be legal for any one to ring their property with land mines even if they thought they had trespassers. A land mine is a defensive weapon, why should civilians be allowed to have weapons designed to kill many people as quickly as possible and then just hope they don't get around to use the weapon for its designed purpose?

"whyaduck if you are talkiing about the Aurora theater shooting, his 100 rd mag for his S&W MP15 malfunctioned when less than 30 rds were fired. The Arizona shooting mentioned was the one in Tucson where six people died and Rep Giffords was shot through the head at point blank range but survived. "Loughner allegedly proceeded to fire apparently randomly at other members of the crowd.[2][20] He reportedly used a 9mm Glock 19 semi-automatic pistol with a 33-round magazine.[21][22] A nearby store employee said he heard "15 to 20 gunshots".[23] Loughner stopped to reload, but dropped the loaded magazine from his pocket to the sidewalk, from where bystander Patricia Maisch grabbed it.[24] Another bystander clubbed the back of the assailant's head with a folding chair, injuring his elbow in the process, representing the 14th injury.[25]"

"Loughner was tackled to the ground by 74-year-old retired United States Army Colonel Bill Badger,[26] who had been shot himself, and was further subdued by Maisch and bystanders Roger Sulzgeber and Joseph Zamudio. Zamudio was a CCW holder and had a weapon on his person, but arrived after the shooting had stopped and did not use the firearm to engage or threaten Loughner."

Not only has Representative Feinstein not decreed anything. The Legsilature and Governor of The State of New York HAVE passed a law mandating clearly seven clip magazines. There are not presently sven clip magazines, prattling on about liberal democrats in Congress when the law is even more restrictive in NYS. Do you have a clue? NO not one clue you letter in and of itself details the lack of a clue.

It is inevitable that the gun laws in this country are going to change. You can start looking for solutions that both sides can live with or you can go on hollering,"NO, NO, No, you can't have my guns". This is why the Republicans lost the election, unwillingness to compromise, and apparently they didn't learn anything from losing. Keep banging your heads.

My mistake. So many to choose from. I never knew there was a mag with that capacity for a handgun until I saw Angelina Jolie or somebody with a pair wreaking havoc. Yes, Hollywood does have and impact. Used to be we emulated Roy and Gene. They didn't slaughter people by the dozen.

An AR15 is NO more lethal than any other rifle! Appearance does NOT increase ability!

right sueanne, because seeing as it happened so fast she didn't have time to take cover, i'm sure she would have had time to get out her gun, aim, and shoot. Seriously, do you guys even think before you talk? But alternatively, think what would have happened if Holmes and Lanza hadn't had access to high capacity rifles. Less people dead.
