Magazine Limit Will Change NothingFebruary 9, 2013To The Reader’s Forum: I have to admit failure. I shot my AR15 “Assault Weapon” over a hundred times and I still can’t change out the ten shot magazines in less than 2.75 seconds. That would add .... Showing 25 of 90 comments Show More Comments

Six yr olds locked in a small room,.....how many can be taken out with a baseball bat? When it happens will they outlaw baseball bats? Give mental evaluations to anyone buying a baseball bat? I fully expect some idiot hooked on the Chainsaw movies to try that next. There goes the lumber industry.

Any psychopath could murder a classroom of little elementary kids with a knife. But instead of talking about "violence," we keep talking about "gun violence." Nothing will change.

If you have a ranch on the AZ/Mex border, you not only have 30rd mags, but quick change attachments since your home intruders cme by dozens, running drugs and often armed escort. And your chance of going to jail is a lot better than theirs.

concern over 100 round mags, would result in this country becoming "dumb"? This is what this debate has become?

No matter what "law" they try and enact, the criminal element will find a way to destroy themselves and as many others as possible.
Law abiding concealed gun permit holders only need 1 or 2 rounds to take out the bad guy. So just like in the old west, everyone should carry so that no one is left unprotected, since the "LAW" can not protect us 24/7.
USA is turning in Kill or be Killed and you will see more of this as they remove the countries Moral Compass.

How can you have any sporting rifle ever made still when under the new un-American un-SAFE ACT that has been taken away. Why does a sporting rifle have to "LOOK" the way you think it should.

If you are unable to answer the first questions about how your plan would work it is not a viable plan. You are not being nearly disarmed, you do not even have the items that are being banned. You can still have any sporting type gun ever made. I get nothing from people having things taken from them, if they were not being used to kill many people increasingly often I would not care. You can show no real benefit from the military style weapons but they do great harm.

So take away guns from the sane honest citizen who has no history of mental illness or run ins with law enforcement to appease those who want feel good laws. That about covers what you advocate for it seems. Remember you would like everyone to have no access to anything but a single shot. And that in itself is very telling of where you stand and why what you think has no real bearing on it. You have no true belief in what the 2nd amendment really means. All you want is what most of the left wants. People disarmed or nearly so.

I can't think of any one not in favor of better mental health care. But when someone is identified as "this person should not be around guns" what is the next step? When they figure out they are on the no gun list they will want them 10 times more. All the detection methods are imprecise and will over diagnose many. Don't get me wrong it would be worth effort to try to help any one before a massive breakdown.

I would suggest better mental healthcare, more "policing by teachers, family, clergy, social workers, who ever they come in contact during the years before they snap completely. We all know that most if not all of them show signs in the earlier years. But once they snap it is to late and all of the gun laws in the world won't stop them from doing whatever they set out to do with whatever tools are at hand. But I know your kind just wants the feeling of power involved with passing feel good laws that really do nothing. Like NYS gun bans. Even the NYS Sheriffs Association says it will do little if anything to stop gun crimes. But pat yourself on the back for trying to convince people that restricting rights and freedoms will help.

" What should be done instead to do more to keep their hands off all weapons" What do you suggest? Ask questions before purchase? Get a psy exam before purchase? Yearly reexams?

"one would think we would do more to keep extremely lethal guns out of their hands" What should be done instead to do more to keep their hands off all weapons. It's the mentally unstable people not the mentally unstable gun causing the problems.

I guess some people just figure they might be found dead and out of ammo, but not likely dead and having a dozen rounds left....

So much talk about the cops being outgunned by the criminals. And the same time making laws to be sure innocent civilians are outgunned by the criminals. I don't have a police force in my pocket, or at home. That's why I want background checks, but no change. And definitely no national register.

I'm not sure how limiting magazine capacity to 10 rounds would be a bad thing as long as the idiotic calls for bans of firearms based on what they look like are defeated. I can't think of any realistic scenario where more rounds would be necessary to defend home and family.
As was correctly noted, a trained shooter can change out magazines in a very short time. If this is indeed the case - and I agree it is - then a 10 round limit would do much to mollify the political showmanship that gun control is really all about without seriously hindering the intended use and purpose of the 2nd amendment.
Let's get reasonable!

Also his first attempt to shoot fasiled when his shotgun failed to fire. He "played" with it trying to gt it to work according to witnesses. One employee said he could have "easily" hit the guy with something but was too afraid and hid. He also ran out of ammo at one point and walked back to his bag to retrieve another magazine. Rabbits. Sheep hiding from a wolf.

Pharyngula-he stayed there for 77 minutes shooting people! He didn't even need the semi auto uzi with that amount of time. At what point in 77 minutes with people being shot all around you do you decide to take a chance and attack him instead of dying like a rabbit? Try that in a restaurant full of Arabs.

"Armed with multiple firearms and 25-round large capacity ammunition magazines, Huberty entered the McDonald's restaurant and opened fire. He shot 40 people, killing 21 and wounding 19. He expended 257 rounds over 77 minutes, before being killed by a police sniper. No motive has been established. Prior to the shooting, Huberty told his wife, "I'm going hunting humans."

Phary-allow me to answer the question you asked me. The guy who shot the firemen in Webster was let out of prison even though he killed his grandma with a hammer. Sandy Hook - the guy killed himself, no law will deter a man willing to kill himself in the end. People willing to kill themself don't give a rat's a55 about "back ground checks, paper work, clip restrictions, gun free zones".
