Great plan for starters !!! Next cut deliveries to Mon, Wed and Fri only. Work 3 twelve hour days and get paid for 40.

khulumzurug, you continue to show your ignorance day after day. I don't think you have ever said a positive thing on this forum. You are nothing more than a pot-stirrer.

Why have post offices open on Saturdays if delivery is going to be abolished. our post office is only open from 10:00-12:00 on Saturday.

Khlutzum...Would you like to get your mail at say, 10:00 at night? Privatize? LOL...Look at a lot of your privatized companies now, especially the ones with unions: They've moved to China. If we privatize US mail, they'll be looking at ways of being able to move the USPS to China as well.

How do you propose that we privatize?
A. Impose a monthly/weekly fee on every postal address?
B. Have a per use fee that is paid on a weekly/monthly basis to the carrier of your choice? Kind of like stamps?
Who will do the delivery? UPS? Fedex? DHL?

ups/fedex could easily take over at 1/2 the cost, studies have been done. the po needs to disappear.

Check out how Canada's system works. They privatized years ago. No post office as such, you go to a certain store to mail anything, mail carriers pick up no mail from your mailbox, all they do is deliver it, no Sat. delivery at all, and very few street corner mail boxes. Also costs have risen because of it.

I need to correct my comment. Just asked a friend from Ca. and found out the post office there is a crown corporation. It's privatized but not privately owned.

I'll simply say that I've received excellent service from the Post Office over the years and terrible service from FedEx and UPS, who have both lost packages sent to me. Yup. Just, oops! Lost 'em. Never to be seen again. Can't say they really cared either. I realize that anecdotal evidence is not scientific, but it leaves me feeling apprehensive about privatizing the USPS.

I am a firm believer in privatizing as much as possible. What in the public sector has functioned better that the private sector, without our tax dollars to prop it up? I’m tired of seeing mail trucks parked behind business or in the back of the parks. Put as much as possible into the private sector and add it to the tax base instead of subsidizing it. How much of the mail you receive is truly wanted? What can’t be delivered electronically? It is time; even the IRS is shifting to the internet. Being computer illiterate is getting closer to being illiterate in a general sense. I understand that some very bright people have chosen to reject the information age, but that is a choice at this point. In any case Ican live without junk mail and eBay packages on Saturday.
