Thoughtful Senators Should Stop Reid

February 4, 2013

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid already is well on his way to making that house of Congress a rubber stamp for whatever he, often at the behest of President Barack Obama, wants to do....

You do realize the article was a joke? "Thoughtful Senators"?

Lonerider, if I don't respond to one of your posts in 3 hours it does not mean you have won a point. It means, unlike yourself, I have a life and don't spend my entire day on this website. Your desire for instant gratification does not create an obligation for me to provide it for you.

the attempt to divide this country further by the tparty and RNC, THRU VOTER SUPPRESSION, WAR ON LATINOS, UNION MEMBERS, BLACKS, THE POOR THE 47%ERS AND WOMEN, FAILED MISERABLY.

Obviously allie has friends on the paper. Just for the record, allie, what part of dividing America into race, ethnic, gender and sexual preference "communities" do you not understand? It's your side behind it, and bad mouthing the other for it happening. Quit bragging about being the local left wing censor.

Jack Nicholson uttered those same words, look what happened to him. For what it's worth.

the author of the 4:44pm comment saw his brand of "truth" handled quite effectively by this forum.

bernie sanders will soon introduce legislation for all those thoughtful senators to consider, and Reid will join in with his support. The bill would address off-shore tax loopholes for greedy corporations, who use p.o.boxes in the Caymen islands and elsewhere to avoid taxes in this country on their profits. Should be an interesting vote, hopefully a "thoughtful" vote, and no need to stop Reid, or anyone else.

as stated in the previous editor's piece "Weeding Out Website Abusers," WE are the first line of defense in monitoring and weeding out offensive comments--when necessary I will hit the abuse button as everyone should-if anyone has a problem with that, call the paper.

Wow! 50s4ever has hit a new low. His 9:18AM post needs to go. I almost never hit "report abuse" but this one deserves it. Racist and homophobic to the extreme.

If you think those things should be considered, then YOU are the racist, and do not comprehend equality. The only institutional racism and bias in America is the affirmative action, college special considerations for scores, etc. The Dems have been educating black people for decades to think they are not smart enough to make it without lowering scores and sending money. The Latinos quickly discovered how well that worked, and jumped on the band wagon. Your sexual preference is not a community.

Gioallie, I hope the republicans do not change a thing. I hope they continue down the path they have for the last 5 years. I hope they continue to ignore the minority in this country. I hope they continue to fight for the wealthest 1% in this country. I hope they continue to propose legislation that will set womens rights back 50 years. I hope they continue to do all of this so we can see people like lonerider, seadog, and fed crying and making excuses as to why their candidate lost 4 years from now. Keep up the good work right wingers.

how can mcconnel and the "thoughtful senators" obstruct every piece of meaningful legislation, against the will of the people? Very easily--it's called filabuster. And filabuster can NOW be defined as "why they lost so convincingly" and if I may quote the late Rodney Dangerfield, "BUT IT LOOKS GOOD ON YOU."

Republicans demand that almost all bills must pass with a supermajority or they will filibuster, is an abuse of Senate rules. That is not why the filibuster option exists. How do YOU propose to stop this abuse? Oh, that's right. The people who are abusing the filibuster represent YOUR beliefs so you have no incentive whatsoever to fix this. All the Republicans have to do to avoid this is to stop abusing the filibuster but that would be too easy and not confrontational enough.

In this particular instance, loneriderrr1, it's the minority party in the Senate that's doing harm.

This editorial's accusation is simply wrong. Mr Reid knows full well that his party will find themselves in the minority some time in the future and it does him no good to severely limit the power of the minority. Of course, when the minority does nothing but obstruct and impede with reckless disregard for the American people's needs, then reforms have to be made. The Republican party has brought this upon themselves. They abused the rules and the rules have to change to avoid this abuse.

Reid is not trying to harm the minority party as much as he is trying to remove dysfunction and political gamesmanship from the senior chamber of our national legislature. The PJ's position in this editorial is way off the mark.

Gun violence? This just in: gun ownership does not extend to privately owned business, including privately owned newspapers, or private citizens, the ACLU says so.

See how goofy your past post was gioalliegravelpitt?

back on topic--Eric[NOT "EDDIE CANTOR]"Cantor, deserves a slight pat on the back for recognizing in his speech that some forms of gun violence reform ,given the public outcry, are reasonable and good policy for republicans.
