You can Choose to pay for cell phones or not. They will not take your house for failing to pay a cell phone. Taxes for policing are not optional to property owners. Surprised these local PDs are not guarding their turf better from Joe and state police. Soon local PDs will be obsolete as Joe pushes for his county wide storm trooper force.

People need to take the time to become educated consumers. The TOWN, by law, (NYS Constitution) is required to provide police protection. So if they vote to get out of the Lakewood Busti, then they would have to rely on the Sheriff. Lets not forget this WILL increase his budget and your taxes will go up again. This is nothing more than a shell game, and shame on the Sheriff for waiting for towns to drop service to increase his staff. No BS i love it we all pay more for cell phones monthly, but no one looks to call Verizon on the carpet for increases that are not substantiated. Don't forget we all pay a tax for the Sheriff at the county level, and they are happy to give us "enhanced" coverage for a fee. Great economics.

I am not in favor of anarchy but... less funds for the Police = less resources for road patrol (legalized extortion)..think about it...

Hey No********, why do taxpayers have to pay for NYS public pension mandates and not union members or CSEA? Shouldn't union dues go up to pay pension? Why are tax payers holding this bag? All the Tarp money paid back by banks and insurance companies, but not Auto industry. UAW got a free taxpayer handout from Obama, and got Obama a second term. Unions are running and ruining this country now.

The people should decide, not some politician with a political agenda like the county home.

Maybe the village residents should be able to vote on how much THEY want to pay for police too? Over the last two years state pension mandates have increased village budget over $100K. No incease in services, just another $100K to pad state pensions. Going up again in 2013 and 2014 too, Maybe polie should be bouncd up to town level like Ellicott Police? The village taking allthe risk on future costs. Town only paying for yea to year service. I like having a local police dept. Just don't like that I have to pay more fo it then my niegbors less than a mile away.
