Second Amendment Is Not For Hunting Purposes

January 30, 2013

To The Reader’s Forum: I read with interest Sam Alessi’s endorsement of NYS’s newest gun legislation. I would like to point out that the MI Garand was initially built around a 10 rnd clip magazine....

The gun debate is getting old . Its a smoke screen to keep our minds off more important and current issues. Yes, the right will say "its not a smoke screen, they are taking away your rights".they love to scream that.no one is taking away our rights. You can still own most guns. Grow up and move on.

Anyway, this sentence seems strange to me: "Then there are the background checks. Who gets to decide if you can have a gun?"

So wait, the author is not in favor of background checks? Any person should buy any gun regardless of their background? Dangerous idea.

And now for the 60 thousand dollar question, the one that has turned the right into an upside-down chaos for the past week or so:

Can anyone give a link to a time when a private citizen defended themself with a high capacity rifle, where another gun would not have worked??

This question is like cryptonite. It seems that it can't be answered,

But it will cause rants...

watch the rants...

Some will say the question is pointless...

Some will talk about chickens and eggs...

Some will name-call and insult...

Some will scream that our country is about to collapse...

but NONE will do one thing. None will give an example where a citizen defended themselves with a high capacity rifle, where another gun would not have worked...

Watch it play out...

There is no gun debate. If you don't like them, don't own them. This is a fun idea. Liberals don't want the government to tell them what to do with abortion, or religion or same sex marriage, but they want the government to tell others what to do with guns. Republicans don't want the government to tell them what to do at all. Except when it comes to abortion, they want people to be told no. Both sides are hypocrites. Both sides are lunatics, and most of you tow party lines. Peaceful protest doesn't do a*****thing for a repressive government. Ask every society in history. Take away the guns and you open us up to relive history. It would allow us to be oppressed. Watch Syria, Libya, Palestine, Iran, North Korea. Let me know if that's what you want. It may not happen immediately, but it is in our future if you keep up with the anti gun rhetoric.

It's Kryptonite...not cryptonite, and you're right, this thing is getting old. If the right to bare arms was just against a government takeover of the people, then why have one for robberies, muggings, etc?

You obviously do not get it Jazzie. There are thousands of gun laws that are not enforced. Criminals do not follow laws. Law enforcement cannot dearm this nation, or won the war on drugs, pedophiles, murder, etc. Why do you think that these new laws will stop criminals? Your tax dollars pay some hefty police salaries that almost never stop crimes before they are committed. Criminals have been around since the beginning of man. So had self defense. Now you want to give away your rights to that, what do you have left?

There's an article in THE NEWS HERALD Panama City,FL That is titled "Lets send citizen militias to the Middle East". A very good article.I would also send all the ILLEGALS along with them. If they come back, grant them citizenship.

I wonder if you have ever read The Constitution jamestownfan18? Do you understand what the militia is? It's you, me, and every other American citizen, we are the defense of this country!! What happens if they take our guns away, they take every right you have and turn you into their slave, or just kill you. I dont know how or why you dont understand this!?! I'm very sorry that you will not get to experience history and become a slave to our government, because we wont let them. We will fight back and keep our Constitution in full tact. And in advance - You're Welcome!!

That stupid question is impossible to answer.

Two reasons: 1) when there is a self-defense shooting, the press rarely ever reports what kind of gun was used or how many bullets were fired. The press only likes to sensationalize the illegal shootings. 2) Hitting a moving target in a high stress situation is difficult, especially if the target is shooting back. Let’s say you did empty a 30 round mag and hit the bad guy 20 times. Forensics could tell which bullet was the fatal one, but they CANNOT tell you the order of each round. So we will never know if round 1 or round 30 was the fatal one.

where has a 30 round clip been used ?Try along the Arizona,Texas,New Mexico, boarders with Mexico.Everyday a Rancher or Homeowner must defend his family or property from illegals or drug cartels. We in jamestown don't have that problem yet, take away our weapons and may GOD have mercy on our souls !

Here's an example, but one of very many, as to how badly this SAFE Gun Act is put together. Apparently ,at least according to the letter sent to the governor by the state's county sheriff's, the law requires that guns be stored "safely" if there is a felon,a person convicted of a domestic violence crime or somebody currently under a Court Order of Protection living in your house. Obviously the fools in Albany don't even know that exsisting Federal law prohibits ANY of those people living with you if you keep guns in the house, regardless as to to whether they're stored "safely" or otherwise! Such people are prohibited from even entering any home where they know guns are being kept. Nonetheless, the new state law actually seems to condone such living arrangements, just as long as the guns & ammo are locked up.

I moved to an area where I can now go out back and shoot my rifles anytime I want. Day or night the front door is never locked. The reason? Everybody out here has a gun and are not afraid to use it... hmm

Remeber when the N. Hollywood incident took place and the cops and FBI had to go to a sporting goods store for better armament? I don't want to have to go to a store when I need defense. It's the most celebrated case of not enough firepower and what not to do for FBI agents.

You're correct 32Coupe, this is just the beginning. Wait until this time next year when the state see's evidence that there's going to be massive non-compliance with registration. Look for the propaganda advertisements to being on radio and TV. "Kids, do your parents have assault weapons in your house? If so, call this toll free number @......". Extreme? Just wait.
