Second Amendment Is Not For Hunting Purposes

January 30, 2013

To The Reader’s Forum: I read with interest Sam Alessi’s endorsement of NYS’s newest gun legislation. I would like to point out that the MI Garand was initially built around a 10 rnd clip magazine....

I can see how they went there, and how the 10th would be to keep slavery too. I really have to re-read the constitution with help from Gates and West and their students.

Ahhh..that's it. the smirking chimp Thom Hartmann, buddies with Olberman, Maddow, McDonnel, and Shultz. I'll wait until I see the actual writings of the period untouched.

I've done fairly extensive reading on that period, and I never have seen that statement anywhere. Point me to the right place pbj.

The real reason the Second Amendment was ratified, and why it says "State" instead of "Country" (the Framers knew the difference - see the 10th Amendment), was to preserve the slave patrol militias in the southern states, which was necessary to get Virginia's vote. Founders Patrick Henry, George Mason, and James Madison were totally clear on that . . . and we all should be too. In the beginning, there were the militias. In the South, they were also called the "slave patrols," and they were regulated by the states.

Cleveland police shooting and chase makes cops and guns look bad. Unreal. Too much TV.

I see the left ran away from these gun forums. Seems that is one thing they do real well. Run

Zillions of blogs claiming there is a loophole that lets you buy any kind of guns over the internet or gun shows without checks. What they don't tell you is each case was an illegal transfer. There is no loophole that allows handguns to be transferred anywhere anytime and it's a federal law.

I think it's sad how Americans have blindly believed that the Second Amendment was designed for hunting and home invasions. It's as if they've never read a history book. They've had the luxury of living in a plastic bubble of a country where freedom has, in their lifetime, always existed, all while forgetting that they are reaping the benefits of a bloody time when that freedom was in jeapordy. This country was founded on the basis of liberty. Not from criminals or even terrorists, but from government. And the second amendment was designed to preserve that liberty.

Reword this Seems some had a problem with original. Would you like more or will that do as proof they exist and will be made illegal under cuomos un-SAFE act. Your governor (not mine) has spoken and expects all to obey. But it is being taken to court where I would pray it gets overturned as it should. Hope that meets that persons requirements now.

I don't recall hearing the term "assault weapon" until the early 1960's wehn Stoner/Armalite systems were the new kids on the block. We alwasy looked at the AK 47s as assault weapons. We thought we used rifles and carbines. Sturmgeweher basicly meant assault wepon to the Germans in WW2.

Because the left is afraid that if they really see the world as it is people might not like them. Surprise they don't now. Nor do these things gain any real respect amongst not only 2nd Amendment people but ones who want the none of the freedoms given us by the Bill of Rights taken away or infringed on. Bush already did that with the non Patriot Act and Obama extended the loss of rights and freedom removed by it. And now this from Cuomo.

I don't know why lhyou don't believe it Pharyngula. Military officers have a career that depends on their being evaluated by political correctness that starts with the Cdr in Chief, the Secretary, and all the flag officers n down the line. It's just like the work place. When I say the left, I include you. That's where you are. Don't you recognize all the campaign rants for the last two years?

Yes what he believes is very relevant to what he posts. Anyone advocating or saying that they would like only single shot weapons is not a true believer in the 2nd amendment no matter what they claim. Anyone who thinks cuomos bill is a good one is not a true believer in the 2nd amendment.

One last thing. Yes it is a loss if they infringe at all on any part of a freedom.

I give up phary. You have your mind made up that anyone who owns one of these must be a killer. Go have this conversation with someone you can convince you are right. Which will never be me. Have a good conversation with whoever that may be. I will be watching to see who agrees with you. Even thought I pretty well already know.

Should have said what danger would a single shot with these cosmetic looks have? Do the looks make them more dangerous really?

Something that can be folded up is easier to conceal and get inside to kill people easier than a longer shotgun.

What danger do they have that even a single shot with those same looks have? What makes the looks of these so dangerous? Why do looks matter to anyone? Is it because your mind can not wrap around the fact that there are Americans that prefer the looks and handling of this style over other styles? Explain to me what makes the looks of one of these so dangerous please.
