If you want to see a great example of the people's militia operating under the authority of the Second Amendment do a bit of research on: "The Battle of Athens Tn" (1946), AKA: McMinn County War

DRSFUN, Considering the huge numbers of semiautomatic rifles, now being mis-labeled assault weapons, that are now owned by the American public; how do you justify your phrase "meant only to kill humans", while shotguns are used to kill more people than the total number of ALL types (BP, bolt, break action, pump, lever & semi) of rifles in the nation combined? Obviously those horrid "assault rifles" must be being used for things other than murdering people, wouldn't you think?

This is the sad world liberals have wrought " A 5-year-old Pennsylvania girl who told another girl she was going to shoot her with a pink toy gun that blows soapy bubbles has been suspended from kindergarten. Her family has hired an attorney to fight the punishment, which initially was 10 days but was reduced to two. Attorney Robin Ficker says Mount Carmel Area School District officials labeled the girl a "terrorist threat" for the bubble gun remark, made Jan. 10 as both girls waited for a school bus." This bill may not be perfect, but is a much needed beginning to curb gun violence. Assault weapons and huge magazines must be banned, and gun registration must be enforced. This takes nothing from hunters and target shooters, but limits access to weapons meant only to kill humans.

When the state starts confiscation it will make the hunt for Bucky Philips and the fight with the Indians look like a picnic. There are likely to be many Waco instances throughout the State.

You don't become the next Democratic presidential candidate by waiting for state lawmakers to adequately review a bill before its passage... you make headlines, first and foremost.

"trigger. The presence of selective fire modes on assault rifles permits more efficient use of rounds to be fired for specific needs, versus having but a single mode of operation, such as fully automatic, thereby conserving ammunition while maximizing on-target accuracy and effectiveness.

Examples of assault rifles include the StG 44, AK-47,[2] M16 rifle, QBZ-95, INSAS, Heckler & Koch G36, and Enfield SA80.

The assault rifle became the standard military rifle in the post-World War II era. The Soviet Union was the first nation in the post-war era to adopt an assault rifle, the AK-47, and other nations followed later. Combat experience during the World Wars had shown that most infantry combat took place at 200–300 meters (218–328 yards) distance and that the winner of any given firefight would most likely be the one with the highest rate of fire. The rifle cartridges of the day were therefore unnecessarily powerful, producing recoil and report in exchange for marginal benefit.

"An assault rifle is a selective fire (either fully automatic and/or burst, and semi-automatic as well) rifle that uses an intermediate cartridge and a detachable magazine. It should be distinguished from the US legal term assault weapons.[1] Assault rifles are the standard service rifles in most modern armies. Assault rifles are categorized in terms of using an intermediate cartridge power that is between light machine guns firing full power cartridges, which are intended more for sustained automatic fire in a light support role, and submachine guns, which fire a lower powered pistol cartridge rather than a rifle cartridge. Fully automatic fire refers to an ability for a rifle to fire continuously until the magazine is empty and no rounds remain; "burst-capable" fire refers to an ability of a rifle to fire a small yet fixed multiple number of rounds with but one press of the trigger; in contrast, semi-automatic refers to an ability to fire but one round per press of a

Not true assault rifles? What are you saying Scalia made up that definition too! It's a civilian variant of the military m-16. What else was it made for except killing people. Anyone listen to MLK's speech yet?

Because it is a political ploy by a left wing nut job in his bid for the presidency. And the AR_15 type rifles in question are not true assault rifles by the federal legal definition. Everyone is over reacting about a rifle that was not even used during the sandy hook shootings.

You can still keep and bear arms. In your 4:15 post you said there many longstanding prohibitions and restrictions on firearms possession consistent with the 2nd Amendment. Why is this one different?

Credit goes to KWC ""District of Columbia v. Heller" "Held: 1. (b) ....The Antifederalists feared that the Federal Governmen twould disarm the people in order to disable this citizen's militia, enabling a politicized standing army or a select militia to rule. The response was to deny Congress power to abridge the ancient right of INDIVIDUALS to keep and bear arms, so that the citizens militia would be preserved."

A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. The Supreme Court decision also includes restrictions. Such as registration requirements, tes of weapons allowed and who may possess a weapon. How does this affect the average gun owner? This complaining of yours sounds like a bully who can't get his way.

Must be you are incapable of understanding the 2nd amendment in it's entirety. KWX has post along with others what it has been deined as. Maybe you should try and find a site that explains in in terms you understand. And no a leftwing rant site does not count and neither does a right wing rant site. Maybe you could try looking it up under SCOTUS rulings. Or would that be to hard for you.

Again, does the Constitution say you can have anything you want. All rights have limits. Free speech has limits. Why shouldn't guns. Why do you only read read half of what the 2nd Amendment says. Off topic, but I heard Martin Luther King's "I have a dream speech" the other day. Being his holiday, it should be a must hear by everyone.
