No, the PJ is wrong..but then again whoever made these stupid laws that the city doesn't have to listen to private citizens - tax payers AND voters - and those who enforce them are plain stupid, and the residents are getting the unfair share of the deal.

"Lakewood will reap the benefits of new development and the additional tax base it brings." This guy is not getting the same tax free deal as the mega-chains we brought in... while clamouring about tax revenue? Heck, I'll help this guy build a 40 foot monkey that shoots cooked/bunned hotdogs out of its rectum, with all the toppings no less, to passing drivers. Now that I think about it, we should probably be a little more diversified in what we shoot out of the monkey's rectum. We're going to need to test this thing in cold weather too.

I have no argument with another car lot or any other kind of business at that site. However, the frenzy of this issue is representative and symptomatic of a much larger sickness: Our fascination with "shopping" and consumerism in general. Stand on that property and look across the street. There you shall see the mecca of what has become with our empty and meaningless lives...

My idea of how government should work does not include telling private property owners what they can and can't do with the property they own, pay for, and pay taxes on. The new serfdom.
