There are 18 schools districts in Chautauqua County and all of them have seen their graduating classes dwindle in the last 25 years.

Jamestown used to Graduate near 600 kids in the 70's and 80's now I hear its closer to 350-400.

Many of the smaller rural school graduate less than 75 kids some as low as 50 in each class.

While I applaud the sports mergers of various athletic teams, It's time that entire School mergers needs to be merged. Dunkirk and Silver Creek have merged wrestling teams, As have Westfield, Ripley and Chautauqua Lake

Now Maple Grove and Chautauqua are talking merger of Football.

I think a group of educator, Principles and Coaches need to sit down and have a discussion about education and sports in Chautauqua County. Combining schools I think would be a positive for both academics and athletics even if it meant a few more minutes riding he school bus for students. The problem is of course the public out cry about closing their school.

It's a very complex problem. In many instances if you close a small rural school you may as well close the town because you have taken out a major source of jobs. You also affect the other businesses where school employees and students shop and socialize. I believe this was one of the major arguments against closing the county highway building in Sherman.

Merging one ore two districts is small ,for any real savings it needs to be county wide school district. Then football can be at any of four schools in the county north south east and west....then other sports can be at the schools that have facilities...this is the only real savings for the taxpayers but nobody ever mentions this why?jamestown and Dunkirk would not be included in the county wide district,

I guess football is more important than studying. These kids are going to be exhausted and sleep on the bus, not study. What is the purpose of school anyway? This plan is very unrealistic and only sounds good talking it or on paper. It's much harder living it.

Start with some mild concussions and throw in a little HGH. Dig it
