Jamestown Still The Measuring Stick

After more than a quarter-century, the city of Jamestown is still the measuring stick for Babe Ruth World Series activities. In fact, for the 14th time since 1980, the city will play host to a World Series at Diethrick Park. The tournament, which will feature 25 games and 10 teams, begins Aug. 16 and runs through Aug. 23. Eight regional champions will join the host Jamestown team and the Western New York state champs in the field. Teams will arrive Thursday, Aug. 14 and play a minimum of four games in a round-robin format through Aug. 20. Single-elimination will follow on the tournament’s final three days, culminating with the championship game at 1 p.m., Aug. 23. Along the way, teams will be treated to the ice-breaker picnic at Bergman Park and the Banquet of Champions, both Friday, Aug. 15; and a 9 a.m. parade and 11 a.m. opening ceremonies, both Saturday, Aug. 16. The first game is scheduled for noon. Tickets are available in the following price ranges: general admission family
