Bazz Is Back

Chautauqua County has been missing a certain soul, swagger and Motown style for some while, as Basil ‘‘Bazz’’ Bankston has been touring abroad with the band the Drifters. Back in Jamestown with a CD of covers recorded with the band while on tour, Bankston is now preparing to record a Christmas album and has shows scheduled for later this month and in November. Recalling the tour, Bankston joked about how he is know as ‘‘Basilio Valentino’’ in Spain and South America. A born entertainer, Bazz remembers singing as early as age 4. Ask him about performing and he says with a laugh that the songs won’t stop until he dies. Citing influences such as David ‘‘Meat’’ Ramsey and Teddie ‘‘Grew’’ Williams,’’ Bankston said releasing CDs has been something he has always wanted to do in order to pay tribute to Motown and the many artists who inspired him.
