MAYVILLE — Sitting among the thousands Friday at Chautauqua County’s Fourth of July parade in Mayville, Carol Warner donned a red shirt. Her shirt carried one simple message spelled out in bright yellow letters: ‘‘Mom of a Marine.’’ Mrs. Warner’s husband, Chris, and daughter, Abigail, each wore shirts carrying a similar message. While the morning parade, afternoon barbecue and evening fireworks are all part of the Warner family’s annual celebration, Lance Cpl. Adam Warner changed the way they look at July Fourth. ‘‘It’s not just a day,’’ Mrs. Warner said. ‘‘You definitely don’t take for granted your freedom — and you’re thankful.’’ Although floats, antique cars and fire engines dominated the annual parade to Lakeside Park, most spectators — like the Warners — looked at the day as more than just floats and fireworks.
