Let’s Keep Gamblers In New York State
To the Readers’ Forum: I read with interest your question of the day regarding the Buffalo Seneca Casino legal decision. First off, I think the state dropped the ball by not originally legalizing non-Native American gambling in the state; other than bingo, Quick Draw, pull tabs and scratch-offs. Other states have been doing it for years; with more states now allowing it. People are going to gamble, so why don’t we try as hard as we can to keep them in NYS? Being that is in the past, NYS should now do all it can to fight for and promote Native American gambling in the state. It’s beyond me that one federal judge can decide what’s good or not good for the state. Although the returns will not be as great with the Senecas, we will still be rewarded with the benefits of increased tourism, employment, (employment taxes!!), miscellaneous revenues associated with gaming and the gamblers (food, gas, lodging, shopping, etc and all sales tax received on these purchases.
