Mysterious Meetings

May 17, 2011 - Dave Hecei
Yesterday afternoon, MacStories.net and MacRumors.com posted a story describing some sort of mysterious meeting to take place this coming weekend. This is said to take place at every Apple Store in the states on Sunday, May 22nd, at 7 A.M.

'Store meetings at 7AM Sunday across United States. Unusual time. Expecting some announcement. All stores, brand-wide US. Don’t know about other countries.'

There are plenty of conspiracy theories about what these meetings entail, but the likely ones include new Macs, new iPhones, new OS X Lion, and my bet, new Mobile Me. This month is also the 10th anniversary for the Apple Retail Store, so it could possibly be some sort of promotion involving this celebration. Wild speculation is that it could be Apple finally embracing subscription music service for iTunes. Another wild rumor is the iPhone available on the Sprint network (this rumor is from an Apple Job posting in Kansas City, which happens to be the hometown of Sprint).

'During the overnight shift, it’s going to be required that employees lock cell phones in the main office. They will also have to sign an NDA with Apple.

There are a wide variety of roles, we’re told, for the overnight shift. This includes all visuals staff, a manager, a business team member, a few Genius team members, one back-of-house employee, and a few generic Apple specialists.

Apple stores have apparently already received hardware to install, and are expecting more hardware to come on Friday or Saturday. All materials that Apple stores have received have been instructed to be under lock and key until after close on Saturday night.

Apple employees will be putting up black curtains at all stores so that people walking outside cannot see inside.

Employees have had to download gigabytes of data from Apple corporate labeled, “training” in a password-protected zipped folder that won’t accessible to managers or anyone else until Saturday afternoon.'

While most know that Apple is one of the most paranoid corporations out there, this seems to show that what is happening this weekend is something they don't want to get out until they are ready for an officially announce it. Whether this happens on the following Sunday, Monday, or the usual Tuesday is also unknown. Tuesday is the traditional product announcement day, but that is not written in stone. We'll just have to wait and see what could be a major new twist to Apple, or just another promotional piece from Steve Jobs.
