| | Legislative Playlist No. 3September 23, 2009 - Nick DeanFear not, friendly legislators and all other readers of this blowhardy blog! I haven't already abandoned my premise of monthly playlist updates. It's just that, well... that last blog post was a pretty good one. How am I to top such a well-executed poop joke? That's the question that's been troubling me for a month now. This post has been toiling away in the back of my brain like an amendment to the tax foreclosure law in the Administrative Services Committee (zing!). Suffice it to say, this will be a rushed and likely all-around let down of a Legislative Playlist. I mean, I've got another drive coming up in 40 minutes! I've got to excise everything I've been meaning to write to make room for the new stuff! For instance, now that Legislator Tina Hallquist's a reader, I've got to razz her the same way I have the good legislators from Frewsburg, French Creek and Gerry. Maybe not this post, though... But first, the music I listened to a month ago while driving to-and-from the Chautauqua County Legislature's regular August business meeting: Nick Dean's Legislative Playlist No. 3 Wednesday, August 26, 2009 PRE-MEETING: Deftones - "Teenager" - White Pony Deftones - "Knife Party" - White Pony Deftones - "Korea" - White Pony Deftones - "Passenger" - White Pony Deftones - "Change (In The House Of Flies)" - White Pony Deftones - "Hexagram" - Deftones Deftones - "Needles and Pins" - Deftones Deftones - "Minerva" - Deftones The Punks - "Air It Out" - Unanimous Bangers Atlas Sound - "Let the Blind Lead Those Who Can See But Cannot Feel" - Reggie and the Full Effect - Megan is my friend to the max - Greatest Hits '84-'87 Ween - "What Deaner Was Talkin' About" - Chocolate and Cheese Ween - "The Stallion Pt. 3" - Pure Guava Built To Spill - "Just A Habit" - You In Reverse POST-MEETING: Les Savy Fav - "We've Got Boxes" - The Cat and the Cobra Modest Mouse - "The Good Times Are Killing Me" - Good News For People Who Love Bad News Joe Anderson - "Happiness Is A Warm Gun" - Across the Universe Soundtrack Discovery - "Orange Shirt" - LP Cursive - "Mama, I'm Swollen" - Mama, I'm Swollen Witch - "Rip Van Winkle" - Witch Filter - "Dose" - Short Bus Nirvana - "Paper Cuts" - Bleach Placebo - "Hang On To Your IQ" - Placebo At The Drive-In - "Rolodex Propaganda" - Relationship Of Command United Nations - "My Cold War" - United Nations Yeah Yeah Yeahs - "Pin" - Fever To Tell BEHIND THE HEADLINES! I had an article published last month about two objections James Caflisch took to the County Board of Elections. You can read that article by clicking HERE. The first sentence of that article reads as follows: "Chautauqua County Legislator James Caflisch, R-French Creek, fought and won one, but lost one as well." Sometimes, we newspaper writers like to slip references into headlines and stories. One of my personal favorites, which also happens to be one I wrote, was for a story about local video stores closing and how the emergence of online services like Netflix contributed to their closing. The headline for that story was: "Mail Order Killed The Video Store" -- an homage of sorts to The Buggles. With the Caflisch story referenced above, I cribbed from the band Reggie and the Full Effect. You can read the lyrics to the specific song by clicking HERE and I've included a video below, but it's of a different video... which is lame. I couldn't find one for "Fought And Won One." Not really an insight into what's behind the headline, I know... More about the lead in this instance, but whatever. The words "behind" and "headline" rhyme! TOPICAL VIDEOS! How about some more videos in lieu of words? Here are a few which have very little in common with today's front page news: Article Comments(2)22tinaOct-02-09 7:52 PM A pleasure to read and listen to! A couple of thoughts - - I've always said Jim was more of Conservative than most who are registered as such. - Ace of Base? Should be required listening :) SMOKING! -Maybe we could play lyrics of sign songs over pictures of the countries worst (ugly, useless ect.) election signs next time? - Larry - 'Slow Fade' is incredible! NickDeanSep-24-09 3:12 PM Indeed... It was close to midnight when I was finishing that piece and I debated whether or not to end it that way. Post a Comment | in: News, Blogs & Events Web Blog Links |
