New Intel Chips
December 30, 2008 - Dave Hecei
Intel just recently added new processor chips to their arsenal. While most Mac users would pass over this story, some of us know that Apple now uses Intel processors in all Macs and this news could be of interest. The one chip that really stands out is the new Intel Core 2 Quad Q9000 chip. This is a new notebook class processor running 4 cores at 2.0 GHz. What makes this chip stand out is that it could very well end up in an upcoming iMacs or even MacBook Pro.
Next month, on January 6th, Apple will launch the 2009 MacWorld Expo with another keynote speech. Rumors are out that we could very well see a new iMac announcement here. Plus, Apple just recently updated the 13.3-inch MacBook and 15.4-inch MacBook Pro laptops, but there still might be a completely new 17-inch MacBook Pro in the works. The 17-inch Pro would be the perfect platform for a Quad core processor. This would set the 17-inch Pro as THE laptop for video and media professionals. If this quad core chip made its way into a new iMac, it would be another first for Apple, their first quad-core consumer desktop.
The keynote in January will be sans Steve Jobs this last time (Apple announced this would be their last MacWorld Expo). Of course this was a bit of a surprise, but if Apple can wow the crowd with something like a quad-core iMac or MacBook Pro, they may forgive his absence and their absence from future MacWorld Expos.
