News Gal-Whitless Wonder Nuptuals Update
May 22, 2008 - John Whittaker
As the first post in this space promised, a recurring theme here will be plans for the News Gal-Whitless Wonder wedding next May.
This is one of those installments, and let me tell you how quickly things can change.
I had written a section of this blog Tuesday to talk about how little had happened in the last week -- all of it on my shoulders, which really sucked. Then, in the span of about 15 minutes, the videographer and photographer, who was a former co-worker I really wanted to take the pictures at the wedding, were checked off the list. Other than signing the contracts and making a downpayment, we have the pictures and DVDs of the ceremony taken care.
Color this a productive, and costly, week!
So now, instead of being a little depressed that some big-ticket items hadn't been done, I'm feeling pretty good that a lot of the major pieces seem to be falling into place. Not only is it a load off my mind, it makes the News Gal happy. And, a happy News Gal, as my buddy Bussman will attest, makes a happy Whitless Wonder.
Speaking of falling into place, reason 1,162 -- a feature that might make a regular reappearance in this space -- why I know I found the right girl.
Not only does the News Gal watch the Yankees when I'm not with her, she lets me rant for 10 minutes about how they need a, um, male part replacement surgery, when nobody retaliates right away for the Orioles hitting Derek Jeter during Tuesday's game. It might be a small thing, but letting me rant, and then remembering how Scott Proctor retaliated in a game early last year when Jeter had gotten plunked, is just another reason I don't want to spend a day away from the News Gal.
And, by the way LaTroy Hawkins, you stepped up a notch in my book -- putting you squarely at notch 1. In fairness, he did start in negative territory for wearing Paul O'Neill's number earlier this year and for being slightly south of terrible so far this season.
But, I'll give Hawkins credit where credit's due -- way to protect a teammate.
In other business:
I think, after a week, I've figured out a workable update schedule. New posts will pop up Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, probably in the morning. While Tuesday and Thursday posts will probably shorter posts about a variety of topics, Saturday posts will be longer, almost column-like posts.
