July 23, 2013 - Nicholas Terry
Despite Sheboygan's love of polka music, the Jetty Boys instead bring the type of power pop that would make Elvis Costello and Joey Ramone proud. Their second album, "Sheboygan" is fleshed out with hooks, melodies and enough punch to make it the perfect summer driving album. It doesn't take long to get into your head. By the end of the first song, "Reflectors" you'll be humming the chorus "I wanna be the reflection...in your eyes" in no time.
The album is hit after hit. I never get the urge to skip songs. In fact, it flows so well together it doesn't feel right skipping songs. Like I have said before about bands, this is not going to take the music world by storm or change lives. It doesn't have to though. This is simply one of the most fun albums to come out recently. Okay, so 2009 isn't so recent anymore, but time flies by so fast these days.
Everyone knows who The Ramones are, but if you're under the age of 25 you probably don't care too much about them. They might as well be The Everly Brothers. It's old and unrelatable. I'd care to disagree, but that's for another time. This is Rocket to Russia for a new generation. I really believe in this band. It's youthful, yet intelligent. This album is for every teenager that has been lovestruck, broken hearted, and then apathetic towards the world. Who hasn't been? Some ideas are universal. The Jetty Boys speak to your heart on the most human level. It might not change the world, but it might help you.
With that said buy this album, get in your car, roll down your windows, and sing your heart out. It's so much fun, trust me, I do it a couple times a week.
