Midterm Report

July 19, 2013 - Nicholas Terry
Six months. I don't know about you, but the first half of 2013 has flown by. I bought a new car, then proceeded to get hit and total said vehicle. Subsequently, bought another vehicle (which is going great, fingers crossed). Bought a lot of records, went to a few concerts, and traveled to places I didn't even know existed before. Overall, it's been a pretty good year. Things were looking bleak for awhile, but it seems like things might be turning around. Or at least I can be hopeless optimistic about it.

So I've listened to a lot of records this year. It's almost work to listen to this much music, but I do it all for you, loyal readers. Some bands have continued to impress me, some disappointed me, and some surprised me. Such is life. I debated on how to write this entry as there were many albums that have come out so far that deserve to be heard. I have made a list of roughly 20 albums that are worthy of a listen this year. They are not ranked in any order, that fun begins in December. Nevertheless, here is the list.

Off With Their Heads - Home
The Bronx - IV
Captain, We're Sinking - The Future is Cancelled
RVIVR - The Beauty Between
Worship This! - Tomorrow, I'll Miss You
Elway - Leavetaking
Frank Turner - Tape Deck Heart
Streetlight Manifesto - The Hands That Thieve
Rumspringer - Stay Afloat
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - Push the Sky Away
Broadway Calls - Comfort/Distraction
Waaves - Afraid of Heights
Surfer Blood - Pythons
Allison Weiss - Say What You Mean
The National - Trouble Will Find Me
The World is a Beautiful Place and I'm Not Afraid to Die - Whenever, If Ever

If what you just read was jibberish to you, don't feel overwhelmed. Everything was new once, and it's supposed to be fun discovering new things. There's something there for just about everyone. Let me know if something you like isn't on there. Maybe I haven't heard it. Word of mouth, even via the Internet, is still the best way to find about things in the world. I hope you find something you like, or that you just found out that there is a whole world outside of the radio and mainstream media.
