Final Cut Pro X-travaganza
March 13, 2013 - Dave Hecei
We've all hear the rumors of the possibility of a new updated Mac Pro tower coming sometime this year. Maybe even coming this spring. For those who can't wait, or for those who don't believe the rumors, I've decided to put together a high-end Final Cut Pro X editing system based on the latest 27-inch iMac.
Over the next week, I'll spec out a system and all the necessary bits to allow for HD production. This will include Final Cut Pro X (the latest 10.0.7 version) along with Motion 5 and Compressor 4. I will also include all the other necessities in video capture, pre-, and post-production.
Of course this will not be an editing suite where you can cut the next episode of NCIS or a major motion picture like the 8th part of The Hobbit (why does it have to be in 3 parts??), but it will handle a corporate media production, instructional video, or even just your niece's wedding.
I'm just getting started and the price tag is growing rapidly. It's quite a shock to see all the parts necessary and their total cost. This won't be for the faint of heart. After I am done, I'll also try to do a more modest setup, just to see how low I can go and get the job done. So stay tuned for the ultimate iMac Final Cut Pro X editing suite extravaganza.
