Six Months Minus Two Days

November 13, 2012 - Liz Skoczylas
Folks, as I type, N and I are six months minus two days away from being hitched.

Time to flip it into overdrive?

Over the weekend, the time frame apparently dawned on my mother, because she has gone into, like, super spin drive. And, terrible bride that I am, I didn't even REALIZE we were six months away until Sunday when N sent me a message, informing me of the date. Whoops.

In my defense, these last few weeks have been super-uber crazy. As some of you maybe might have noticed (or, maybe you haven't...) I have started a new job within the newsroom, taking over the county beat. So, I've been making that transition, in between having time off over the last two weeks.

I've had time off because I moved. My parents own an apartment that they rent out, and the tenants who lived there moved out. So, I am temporarily living there, until N and I are able to find a place within his fire district. It's hard knowing that I just moved in there and I will be moving again in a couple months, but at the same time I am enjoying my last little bout of living alone before N and I move in together.

On that note, N and I are STILL looking for a place in his fire district that will allow us and our puppy. With six months minus two days until our wedding, I'm hoping this happens sooner rather than later, although I'm not thrilled with the idea of packing up and moving again. But, I'm trying not to stress out about it.

Remember how I said we've got a lot done for the wedding? Well, now it's time to get going on some of those little details because there's ONLY six months minus two days left.

Like, our invitations slash save the dates slash programs. That's what my mom has been really freaking out about. With good reason. I mean, the save the dates have to go out in a few more months, and, well, we haven't really started them. Luckily, this non-DIY bride has a friend who is a graphic designer, sooooooo I just drew pictures of what I want and dropped those off on his desk today. Hopefully, we can get some rough mock-ups to look at and then hand the rest off to him and get those done.

I also sat with my mom this morning to look at prices for some favors online. I gave the thumbs up to ordering those this morning, which is another little thing to cross off the list.

The day after she got engaged, my future sister-in-law (FSIL) got a really super cute bridal planning binder, with, like, everything you will ever need to plan the perfect wedding. Because it is free and I am cheap, I have The Post-Journal 2012 Wedding Planner that I just pulled out of our archives this morning. I figure it's got all the same basic information in it as the planner FSIL got, and I'll probably look way cooler carrying that around than she will with her purple binder (LOVE YOU!). So, yeah, I'm going to get that out and start crossing things off and figuring out what I'm forgetting.

Meanwhile, N is on this apartment thing. Due to a death in his family, he has this week off of work, so hopefully he can find us someplace livable.

And, with six months minus two days to go... I am not wearing my engagement ring today. I haven't mentioned it to anybody yet, especially not N, so don't tell on me. I took it off to wash some dishes this morning before I came to work, and accidentally left it off. I told you, I'm a terrible bride. But, my poor finger looks very naked without it. And, I left off the rest of the rings I normally wear today, too, so my hands are feeling much lighter than normal. Plus, I also left my watch right next to the rings, so I just feel like my arms are going to float away with no jewelry to anchor them down. Yikes.

I guess it's time to get on my mom's wavelength and dive back into this wedding-planning thing!! Detail time!
