One More 'One More Thing'

October 16, 2012 - Dave Hecei

The rumors are right, Apple will be holding another press event next week on the 23rd. Apple should use this upcoming event to announce the last of any new hardware for this year. This might include an all new iPad mini along with updated iMacs and Mac mini.

The most likely device to be shown at this event is an iPad mini. This has been rumored for some time now. The Amazon Kindle Fire HD and Google Nexus 7 tablets are doing quite well. If Apple does come out with a smaller tablet, they will be arriving late to this party. They shouldn't worry too much. If Apple does produce an iPad mini I can pretty much guarantee you they will sell every single one they can make through the end of this year.

Then there are Mac desktops that are very overdue for updates. Actually all current Mac desktops (iMac, mini, Pro) do not have the latest Intel chipsets, which have been available since spring. I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for a new Mac Pro tower, but there just might be new iMacs and minis announced next week. The current models of the mini and iMac do at least have Thunderbolt ports, but an Ivy Bridge update should bring some nice speed boosts along with USB 3.0. There are rumors that have the iMac becoming even thinner. Alas, if this does happen it is likely the optical Superdrive will disappear. This has already happened on the current mini and Retina version MacBook Pro laptop.

The event is slated to be held on October 23rd at the California Theater in San Jose, California. The event is set to start at 10 am PDT, or 2 pm EDT.
