12 Days of Gifts - Day 2
December 6, 2011 - Dave Hecei
Doctor Who? I’m sure you have at least one Doctor Who fan on your gift giving list. That fan will likely be a Mac, or at least PC, user too. Here’s the gift just for them. The Tardis USB hub.
For those not living in the Who-dom, the Tardis (T.A.R.D.I.S.) stands for Time And Relative Dimensions In Space. This is the blue police box that the Doctor tavels in, through time and space. It may look like a small blue telephone booth (for us Yanks), but the Tardis is actually much larger on the inside. If you don’t understand much of this, don’t worry. Any Who fan will love one of these.
As for the computer user, having more USB ports is always a good thing. A USB hub is a way to turn one USB port into several. The Tardis USB hub has one in and four out ports. There is a blue light that is on when plugged into a computer and flashes when a USB device is plugged in and in use. There is even a button on the front that you press to get the iconic Tardis sound effect.
The only con I found is that most places sell it without a power adapter. It will work without it, but you are limited into what you can plug into it. There is a port for an AC adapter that says 7.5V. Having a power adapter makes it a powered hub. One that is useful and yet very cool. Shopping online, the price is around $30.
