Gary L. Overturf

Gary L. Overturf, 73, of Kennedy, passed away unexpectedly Friday (Nov, 16, 2018) at his home.

A lifelong area resident, he was born Dec, 14, 1944, in Jamestown, the son of the late Wallace and Phyllis Smith Overturf.

In earlier years, Gary was employed by Ellington Hardwood, Crescent Tool, proudly owned and operated Overturf Dairy and prior to retirement, was employed by Crawford’s Furniture.

Gary enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting, camping and four wheeling. Those who knew and loved him will miss his light-hearted spirit, his mischievous nature, his easy smile, and the way he could be counted on to lend a hand to anybody. Although he may have seemed to have a gruff exterior and a stern backbone, he is genuinely softer than most on the inside who carried his big heart on his sleeve.

He is survived by and deeply missed by his wife, Ethel Martin Overturf, whom he married Aug. 24, 1968, in Ellington; three children: Carol Overturf (Tom Leichner) of Kennedy, Lori (Russell) Polizzi of Conewango Valley, and Pete (Cherie) Martin of Cherry Creek; seven grandchildren: Lyle Delahoy, Jeremy Delahoy, Amy Martin, Tristin Martin, Paul Martin, Michael Martin and Kayley Guy; three great grandchildren: Karena Hitchcock, Michalla Hitchcock and Ryder Adams; two brothers: Melvin Overturf of Indiana and Roger (Kennilynn) Overturf of East Randolph; two sisters: Christina (Fred) Kaltenbach of Napoli and Donna Feldman of Gerry; and many good friends who loved him dearly.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Martin; two sisters: Carolyn Shutters and Maxine Brown; and two brothers: Wallace Overturf and Gordon L. Overturf Sr.

The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday in the Falconer Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. Pastor Sue Fish will officiate.

You can honor Gary best by remembering the values he held dear: work hard, love your family, enjoy life and help someone when you can.
