Winsor Street Fire Deemed ‘Suspicious In Nature’
A fire at a vacant warehouse on Winsor Street has been described as “suspicious in nature” by the Jamestown Fire Department.
On Tuesday, around 7:30 p.m., fire crews responded to the former Crawford Furniture Atlas Division building at 40 Winsor St., where smoke was reportedly seen coming from a rear loading dock.
Battalion Chief Andrew Finson of the Jamestown Fire Department said a small fire was discovered inside and extinguished. The fire is still under investigation, but is considered “suspicious in nature” due to the structure being unoccupied, a primary target for arsonists.
In 2015, the Winsor Street building experienced a partial roof collapse due to weather stress and underwent an emergency demolition to part of its structure.
