MAYVILLE — Very little has changed in recent local election results, despite a number of affidavit and absentee ballots being counted.
The unofficial results are in after the Chautauqua County Board of Elections opened, counted, stacked and re-stacked the various ballots on Monday. The ballots were counted for the Jamestown At-Large City Council election; the Sherman Village Trustee election and the Ellington Town Council election.
For the Jamestown race, Kim Ecklund received the most votes at 2,430 votes, an increase of 132. In second-place was Andrew Liuzzo, with 2,075, an increase of 123. In third place was Vanessa Weinert with 2,063 votes, an increase of 109.
Due to the ballots, the order of finishers changed slightly. After election night, Ecklund was first; Weinert was second; and Liuzzo was third.
Those who were not elected to at-large council positions included Greg Rabb, current city council president, received 1,959 votes, an increase of 105, Robert Whitney Jr. received 1,745 votes, an increase of 95 and Michael D. Laurin received 1,985, an increase of 122 votes. There were 52 blank ballots for the race in question and nine void ballots.
Philip Hall received the most votes in the Town of Hanover town justice race with 30 extra votes in his favor. After the ballots were counted, Hall had a total of 641 votes; Anthony Pearl had 605 votes; and Wayne Ashley had 610 votes.
For the Sherman Village Trustee race, there were three candidates vying for two positions on the board. After Monday’s counting, Donna Higginbotham received 133 votes; Kirk Ayers had 107 votes and Brian G. Bates received 102 votes. Higginbotham was the incumbent.
For the Ellington Town Council race, Kevin Colburn received 242 votes; Jeffrey Reynolds received 161 votes; Jeffrey L. Chase received 159 votes and Klaus Mandel received 150 votes.
Throughout the counting process, interested parties were able to inspect the ballots, if they chose to do so. Some ballots were not able to be counted because the person who voted was not registered to vote or a ballot was not received in time for the election.
The counts are unofficial until certified by The Board of Elections at a later date.
For the Jamestown City Council election, each vote was read off by Republican Commissioner Brian Abram and recorded by Democratic Commissioner Norm Green.
