DUNKIRK — A Dunkirk man was killed Tuesday when the ambulance he was ridding in veered off the roadway and struck a culvert.
Arthur R. McArthur, 77, was being transported from UPMC Hamot hospital in Erie, Pa., to a nursing home in Chautauqua County when the crash occurred, State Police said late Tuesday.
Police said the ambulance, operated by EmergyCare, was eastbound on Route 5 in Dunkirk when it left the roadway. McArthur was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
His death was reportedly caused as a result of the crash.
The operator, a 49-year-old whose name wasn’t released, was transported to Brooks Memorial Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
The crash is still under investigation. State Police were assisted by the Collision Reconstruction Unit and Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
