Separate Fires Keep Firefighters Busy In Falconer

FALCONER — Two fires that broke out early Sunday in the village of Falconer were doused with the help of surrounding departments.

Crews were first called around 2:45 a.m. to 217 E. Pearl St. for a report of a house fire. Upon arrival, fire officials reported heavy fire coming from the second floor. Volunteers from Gerry, Kennedy and Kiantone were called to assist at the scene.

The home sustained significant damage.

Members of the Chautauqua County Fire Investigation Team were summoned to determine the cause of the blaze. The team remained on scene as of 10 a.m.

Around 7:45 a.m., Falconer firefighters were called to the eastbound lane of Interstate 86 for a report of a semi tractor-trailer with its tires on fire. Mutual aid departments were called to assist, and the interstate was briefly closed to traffic.
