UPDATE: Barn Destroyed In Ripley Fire
RIPLEY — Several animals are believed to have died in a barn fire Sunday afternoon.
Karen Riedesel said she was cooking around 12:40 p.m. when she heard popping sounds. She looked outside her 9034 Belson Road residence in Ripley and saw smoke coming from a nearby barn.
Riedesel’s husband, Phil, was born on the Ripley farm. She said her husband tried to save as many animals as possible, but believed several perished in the blaze.
She said chicken, pigs and young calves were kept inside the barn.
Several local volunteer fire departments responded to Belson Road. Smoke from the fire could be seen as far away as Interstate 86 in Bemus Point.
The cause of the fire wasn’t immediately known.
More information will be released when it becomes available.
